It’s coming!

Set your alarm! In a little more than two weeks - November the 11th - the most awaited chess event of the year will get going in New York City, at the iconic Fulton Market Building - Seaport District in Manhattan.

Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin will line up their armies in a 12-game battle, in the youngest Championship Match ever. Both players were born in 1990, Magnus in Norway and Sergey in Ukraine.  Karjakin is now representing Russia; this breaks a 9-year fast for the chess superpower, that had Vladimir Kramnik as its last participant in a world championship match, in 2007.

FREE ICC months and a LIFETIME ICC membership!
While we eagerly await the start of the Chess World Championship between GM Magnus Carlsen and GM Sergey Karjakin, we thought we’d build up the excitement by giving you the chance to win free membership time on ICC, plus, if you do so, you can also earn the chance to win a lifetime ICC membership! Here’s how:

First, we created two different one-year ICC memberships, one for Magnus Carlsen:

VOTE FOR MAGNUS

and the other for challenger Sergey Karjakin:

VOTE FOR SERGEY

When you purchase the membership of the player you think is going to win the Championship, you will earn 3 BONUS MONTHS ($24.95 value) OF ICC MEMBERSHIP if your pick wins!

Plus, all those purchasing the Magnus or Sergey ICC membership have the chance to win a LIFETIME ICC MEMBERSHIP as well!  Guess the correct final match score and you’ll be eligible to win our grand prize of an ICC lifetime membership!  All who correctly guess the final match score by the voting deadline of November 10th, 2016 will be entered into a drawing for the lifetime ICC membership.

In order to participate in this amazing contest, guess the player you want to win by choosing that membership, then on the page, select the final match score when adding to the chart. You need to guess the FINAL match score.  Examples: 6-5-0.5,  6-5-1.0,  6.5-1.5, etc.
If the players are tied after 12 games (6.0-6.0), there will be tiebreaks. The first tiebreak consists in 4 Rapid games, with 25 minutes for each player with an increment of 10 seconds after each move. If the players are tied after the first tiebreak, a match of 2 games shall be played with a time control of 5 minutes plus 3 seconds increment after each move. In case of a level score, another 2-game match will be played to determine a winner. If still there is no winner after 5 such matches (total 10 games), one sudden-death game (Armageddon) will be played. This means that, in theory, the match could consist of 27 games. Therefore, the final and TOTAL score might end up being 14.0-13.0. It is important that you indicate the exact FINAL match score in your guess!

Magnus and Sergey on ICC
Both Magnus and Sergey are former chess prodigies: in the list of the youngest kids to become a chess grandmaster, Sergey is first and Magnus third.  The two super-talented players belong to the Internet generation, and their favorite place to practice is, ça va sans dire, the Internet Chess Club. They started playing on the ICC at the tender age of 10, and hours of practice against the chess elite has been beneficial to their career.

Magnus has played thousands of games on ICC, but since the reigning World Champion doesn’t like to be recognized, he changes username quite often. The ICC people like to follow top games, and all kind of speculations come up as soon as Magnus’ rating skyrockets: “It’s him, I am sure! I can see that from his style” - “No, it’s clearly Grischuk, c’mon!”, in a sort of Magnus-spotting game.

Of course, Magnus and Sergey are not the only top guns that use the ICC as their practicing arena. Caruana, Grischuk, Giri, So, Vachier-Lagrave, Nepomniachtchi, and a whole lot of top GMs play regularly on ICC.

You know, not all the Chess Servers are created equally, and there is no other service as prestigious as ICC for the serious chess player. The “pure rating” pools allow ICCers to play strong opponents. It’s not hard to get paired for a game to the likes of Magnus, Fabiano, Wesley, or to stumble over Blitz wizards like Max Dlugy and Conrad Holt, if you’ve got a decent rating.

Sign up NOW for a one-month FREE trial account, and start challenging the chess elite!

Stay tuned! ICC will announce all its activities and promotions related to the World Championship Match in the next post!
