Could anyone recommend an online absolute beginner’s course for someone who’s just learned how the pieces move and a couple of opening moves?
Or, perhaps, any website that could be helpful for said beginner?

Thanks for your time,
Mark

Hi Mark

  I recommend the videos of National Master Dan Heisman.  He is a Professional Tutor who has created numerous videos (many available for Free to ICC members) at https://www.chessclub.com/videos.  He also has video lessons and books available in our store at: https://store.chessclub.com/videos/nm-dan-heisman that provide a great deal of openings for beginners and intermediate players.

  You also should take advantage of your ICC perks by playing games and solving puzzles.  While learning you might want to play slower games ... to that end:

Hey Mark, thanks for seeking out resources like National Master Dan Heisman’s videos and the ICC’s learning center! I would like taking advantage of an ICC membership by participating in tournaments and solving puzzles too.
So I considered joining a chess club or finding a chess coach, but Idk how should I start. I hope that getting involved in a community of chess players will provide me valuable opportunities for practice, feedback, and learning from more experienced players…
Any thoughts please?
Overall, I would ask also about some sources that would help me learn not only chess, but also for my college courses. You know guys how hard it is to be a student…

Err, if you’re interested in finding a local chess club, you can start just by doing a quick online search for clubs in your area. Many clubs also list their meeting times and locations on their websites or social media pages. Once you find a club that interests you, reach out to the organizers or attend one of their meetings to get a feel for the group.

As for finding a coach, from my last experience I can claim there are many talented chess players out there who offer private coaching. You can start by searching online for coaches in your area or asking for recommendations from other chess players you know. It’s important to find a coach who is a good fit for your skill level and learning style.
(Btw, if you trust me, I can recommend Camille’s course, Idk)

Hi

  Just FYI

  The Internet Chess Club (ICC) is your best option even if you live near a local club.  If you are looking to join a club keep in mind it is not an either / or choice.  The learning opportunities of online chess at ICC can enhance your playing skills and perhaps even improve your (Over The Board) OTB scores.  ICC also provides USCF Rated Tournaments to ICC members who are also USCF members.

    *** FREE USCF Rated Tournaments ***

*  Quick Rated (15 5) on Friday at 7pm Eastern or Saturday (12 3) at 5pm Eastern

    The more exposure you have Like Minded Chess Players both on ICC and OTB the better your experience will be.  Remember, it’s a Game and it’s supposed to be Fun grin

*  Blitz Rated (5 2) on Sunday at 2pm Eastern or a (3 2) on Monday at 7pm Eastern.
