NoEscape

 NoEscape is a variable that allows both players to agree that if, for any reason, one player disconnects during the game, that player forfeits the game.  This is highly discouraged for most people, as a bad Internet connection can disconnect you and cause the loss of your game regardless of the position on the board or time on the clock.  Sometimes, even with an excellent Internet connection circumstances beyond your control, such as a bad router somewhere along the route between you and ICC's server may drop your connection, causing you to lose a game. Use this setting at your own risk.

To turn Noescape on or off, go to Settings and then to the Playing2 tab and down to Forfeit on Disconnect.

To ensure your game is always noescape, you will want to follow these additional steps:

Once noescape is activated, a message will appear, stating: "You will request noescape when games start." Both players MUST have noescape activated for it to work.  If both players have activated their noescape variable, the following message will appear at the start, verifying that noescape rules will be applied to the game:

{Game 875 (TJ vs. audio) Game started}
The players have agreed that a disconnection will be considered a forfeit.

If your opponent does disconnect during the game, you will get some more server messages and the game forfeited in your favor.  However, if you disconnect, the same will happen for your op ponent. Under certain circumstances involving lag the player who is disconnected may be allowed up to 120 seconds to reconnect to the server before being forfeited.

Game #: Your opponent, Blah, has lost contact or quit.
{Game # (Blah vs You) Blah forfeits by disconnection} 0-1

If you don't want noescape to be activated, the default setting is OFF.  If you have had noescape activated and would rather it be deactivated, just turn the setting off

Keep in mind that all 5-minute and 1-minute games are played with noescape set by force. Any disconnection counts as a forfeit.
