Masters Final - Sao Paulo & Bilbao

The Masters Final this year is going to take place in two cities: first leg in Sao Paulo, Brazil - from September the 24th to the 29th, and second leg in Bilbao, Spain - from  October the 8th to the 13th. FIDE Grand Prix in London!

The FIDE Grand Prix, that will take place in London from September the 21st to October the 3rd, has finally a definite line-up. Unfortunately GM Peter Svidler had to renounce, thus the organizers called in GM Michael Adams, #1 of England. 40th Chess Olympiad - Daily Report: Round 10

Three teams are heading into the final round of the 40th Chess Olympiad with equal points. According to the tie-break rule (Olympiad-Sonneborn-Berger-Tie-Break without lowest result (Khanty-Mansiysk)), the order is: China, Armenia, Russia. The brilliant performance of the USA team has put a stop to the Russian machinery that was storming ahead to claim their first gold medal since 2002. The Russian two points advantage disappeared and now four teams are sharing the first place with 15 points each. Russia seems very determined to take the gold medal after the 10-years break since Bled 2002. In round 8 they defeated Ukraine, gold medalists from 2004 and 2010, thanks to Sergey Karjakin's effort against the former teammates. It is interesting that the then 14-years old Karjakin scored 6,5/7 for the Ukrainian team in Calvia 2004. Apparently Russia was not shaken by the missed victory in the previous round as they continued their winning spree in the 7th round of the World Chess Olympiad. In the clash against Azerbaijan the Russians signed three draws and once again left the fate of the match in the hands of Alexander Grischuk. USCL - 2012 season is starting!

This year, for the FIRST time, ICC will have Live Chess.FM broadcast for all the USCL rounds played on Mondays! GM Alex Yermolinsky will be your analyst, and he will provide commentary for the matches being played in ICC, and the Game Of the Day service. Before the start of the 40th Chess Olympiad many experts predicted that Russia and Armenia are the main favourites for the gold medal. These two teams were match in the 6th round after achieving perfect scores in the first five rounds. Vladimir Kramnik sacrificed a piece for two pawns foreseeing that his queenside phalanx will be incredibly hard to deal with. The 5th round of the Istanbul Chess Olympiad saw the heavyweights crossing the swords on the top two tables. The 2011 World Champion Armenia was paired against the defending Olympiad Champion Ukraine. Levon Aronian was very energetic with white pieces and already my move 30 he won an exchange from Vassily Ivanchuk. In the 4th round of the Istanbul Chess Olympiad USA played against India on the top table. According to the Indian players, the Philadelphia Open winner and reigning national champion Abhijeet Gupta is very dangerous with white pieces, but Varuzhan Akobian neutralised opponent's minimal advantage and repeated the moves to make a first draw. The 3rd round of the World Chess Olympiad finally paired some of the higher rated teams to play one against another, and as a consequence many matches were closely contested. The famous Italian football trainer Fabio Capello, currently coaching the national team of Russia, entered the playing hall and posed for several photographs. The 40th Chess Olympiad started today.  165 Teams from all over the world, this morning at 8:00am ICC time, crossed their rooks and bishos over the boards, to fight for a medal.
