 1: Eratosthenes of Cyrene lived approximately 275-195BC.  He was the first
 2: to estimate accurately the diameter of the earth. For several decades,
 3: he served as the director of the famous library in Alexandria.  He
 4: conceived the "Sieve of Eratosthenes", a method of identifying prime
 5: numbers.  He was highly regarded then and now but unfortunately only
 6: fragments of his writing have survived. Eratosthenes died at an advanced
 7: age from voluntary starvation, induced by despair at his blindness.
