Improve Your Chess: Trading When Losing

Opening: C92: Ruy Lopez, Zaitsev Variation

Player(s):

Both sides rattle off some theoretical moves but then, as so often happens in amateur games, one side goes awry but the other side thinks it is still book and does not take advantage of the error. Then another double blunder still leaves the game even. After a brief flurry an equal endgame occurs but White thinks he has set a trap, when instead he loses a pawn. Finally the biggest error of the game occurs when White can stay in a rook and pawn endgame down a pawn but possibly defendible and instead trades into a dead lost king and pawn endgame - which he loses.
