Game Of the Week: GM Cori vs. GM Mareco

Opening: E06: Queen's pawn game

Player(s): Cori, Mareco

Three-time U.S. Champion GM Joel Benjamin brings you a new show every Friday at 15:00 Server Time. Joel is regarded by many as one of the best commentators and analysts' we have in the game today -- so if you want to get ahead of the game, get ready to tune-in!

The American Continental Championship unfortunately did not see any US players among the top finishers. Yuniesky Quesada Perez of Cuba and Argentine GM Sandro Mareco tied for the top spot.

Mareco scored a key win against one of the top seeds Jorge Cori of Peru, in the game we will feature this week. Technical chess seemed to dominate at this tournament, and Mareco played this style to perfection in Montevideo. Against Cori he showed that while White is often trying to squeeze a win from a quiet position in the Catalan, Black can have the idea as well.
