NEWS 857 (30-Dec-97)  Anand advances to FIDE World Championship Finals.
Grandmaster Anand of India defeated Grandmaster Adams of England today
in a playoff match watched by over 500 people on the Internet Chess Club.
The first four games of the playoff were draws, as were the four games of
the regular match. Anand finally won in the fifth playoff game.
You can examine the games in the library of FIDE8. Do "liblist FIDE8" to
see the list.
ICC will broadcast the FIDE World Championship Finals between current
champion Karpov and Anand. The six game match will be held January 2, 3,
4, 6, 7, and 8. All games will start at 9am EST (2pm GMT).
Be sure to login to ICC to watch and comment with hundreds of other
spectators. Over 500 spectators watched the Anand-Adams playoff games
today on ICC.
