Main Story The Corus Line-up

Win More Games Get ready for the biggest event of the year, as the 71st Corus Chess tournament takes place Saturday, January 17th to Sunday, February 1st, 2009 in its spiritual home of Wijk aan Zee, The Netherlands.

Despite the absence of world champion Viswanathan Anand, challenger Vladimir Kramnik and World Number one Veselin Topalov, there's still a strong line-up for the Grandmaster 'A' group with Alexander Morozevich, Vassily Ivanchuk, Magnus Carlsen, Levon Aronian and Teimour Radjabov being favorites for the first major of the year.

And if that doesn't whet your appetite, then there's more: the Grandmaster 'B' Group includes former World Champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov (Uzbekistan), former world championship challenger Nigel Short and former World Championship Candidate Henrique Mecking (Brazil).

The Grandmaster 'C' group features former top star Oleg Romanishin (Ukraine) and the young GM Eduardo Iturrizaga (Venezuela), who qualified late last year from an ICC Online Qualifier.

All rounds start at 7:30am ET (1:30pm CET local) except for last round at 6:30am ET (12:30pm CET local), with the rest days being Jan. 21st, 26th & 29th.

ICC Chess.FM will have unrivaled coverage throughout, with our special opening day commentator on Saturday, January 17th being none other than five-time Russian champion Peter Svidler! Also joining Mig Greengard will be the usual team GM team of Joel Benjamin, Larry Christiansen, Nick De Firmian, John Federowicz, Ronen Har-Zvi and Gregory Kaidanov.

And direct from the press room at Corus Wijk aan Zee, reporting for Chess.FM will be American Chess Journalist of the Year, Macauley Peterson, who will be giving us his video spin of all the action that can be found at the Chess.FM Blog.

Join ICC now to listen to all the action each day live as it happens, when it happens with our unrivaled GM commentary team - and get the chance to take part in three exciting competitions to win major chess prizes with the New In Chess Trivia contest, The GOTD Trivia contest, and the Everyman Chess Corus Call-in contest.

Petrosian System Against the QID, The - Beliavsky & Mikhalchishin

ICC Store The Petrosian System Against the QID deals with a reliable and interesting system which has been played by most of the world's elite, starting with ex-world champion Tigran Petrosian. It is not a repertoire book though. Beliavsky and Mikhalchishin present an objective work which discusses the possibilities of both sides. The authors' own practical experiences show that they feel comfortably in the Petrosian system with any colour. They are especially effective with White and have not allowed a single loss in 27 years. This book will be interesting to a wide range of players who enter the QID positions as White or Black.
