Sergey Erenburg: Champion of the Future
Sergey Erenburg successfully defended his title as the New Jersey Futurity Champion. He finished with an outstanding score of 7.5/9.0, a full point ahead of GM Leonid Yudasin, who finished in second. Unfortunately, NM Mackenzie Molner—the favorite in the IM norm race—fell a half point short during his final three rounds. In last week’s newsletter, we had projected that Molner needed 1.5/3.0 in his last three rounds to score a norm, but instead he finished ever so close with two draws and a loss. Regardless, congratulations to Molner on a fantastic run!

KibBlitzing with IM Dean Ippolito
This week we KibBlitzed with IM Dean Ippolito, who is currently ranked #10 on the Grand Prix charts. Dean is one of the most active chessplayers in New Jersey—in fact, he crammed 36 rated games into 20 days by playing in the World Open, the New Jersey Futurity, and many other tournaments! Dean called this his “experiment”, which yielded mixed results. Find out why Dean thinks he could have won a few games in the ARVO tournament of 1938 by reading the KibBlitz.
