GM Illescas + Machine vs Machine

We were waiting for that man versus machine match with a twist : ICC's Deep Junior 11 got set to face a combined challenge from GM Miguel Illescas and Junior 9 on Thursday, June 5th starting at 12:00pm EDT at CosmoCaixa in Barcelona, Spain.
Miguel Illescas is a seven-time Spanish champion and second to former world champion Vladimir Kramnik. And his relationship with computers is a crucial one - he was hired as a consultant by IBM for Deep Blue, the machine that beat Kasparov in 1997.
Deep Junior 11 is a new version of the five-time world computer chess champion program, created by Israelis Amir Ban and Shay Bushinsky, that also drew a six-game match in 2003 in New York against Kasparov.

The match was 2 games 20 10 which both ended in a draw so. "Finger Junior08" to examine them.

ICC now has the exclusive rights to new versions of Junior (both Deep Junior 11 and Junior 11), and soon after the match it will be commercially available.

 Simul Results

Don't miss the registration! To make sure you'll be warned of the beginning of the registration for the simul, just do "tell simulbot alarm". Beware, that is a toggle command, so, if you send the command twice, that will switch the alarm off.
EC IM Goran Vojinovic'Simul, was played against 12 players! The Simul was full and some players who waited the Simul to start before latejoining stayed out :(
Goran scored 11.5/12 drawing to Brechstange with who he reviewed the game to point out how the player lost the game in totally winning position.
GoranVojinovic(IM) kibitz: by the rules of Alekhin, King support passed pawns and rook play against opponents pawns

Let's keep that in mind!
WCL is the only site where Simul are followed by an analysis and comments between the simul giver and  the  audience.

Banter played this week:

During the 25 5 game, the two Masters whisper their thoughts and their plans. Of course, they can't read what their opponent is planning. Always interesting to try to understand how a Master thinks!
When the game finishes, the players review the game together, exploring other lines and analyzing their mistakes.

GM Viktor Gavrikov vs GM Arthur Kogan. As usual, Arthur brought his 'olala spirit' in the event giving entertainment to the audience but that was not enough to win this 25/5 game.

These games are recorded with their commentaries for a further rebroadcast.
You can also do
/finger Banterchess to review the games without the comments for now but you will be soon be able to have the full benefit of the event.

 Questions and some answers:

  • Too much channels! You are in Lobby (channel 250) but you want to see what is happening in the channel where you just joined a tourney, and, of course, you don't want  to miss the announces in main and... well you don't want to miss a thing! so you can choose and switch from tab to tab OR, in settings, unmark channel tab. Then all the message will appear in a single window in a different color with the number of the channel they come from like username{223}: when does the wild tourney start? .But, each time you want to send a message in a channel, it must be like /tell 250 <your text> to send it in 250, then /t 1 <my question is> if you want to ask something in newbie/live channel. By the way there is a shortcut, if you type ', <my text>' your message will be sent in the channel you just used before.

  • Games of the day / Videos : they are available for members only (so join us !) with your WCL handle and password. Don't miss the series "Boris Alterman's Gambit Guide".
In the Part 1, Boris Alterman explores the legendary Fried Liver Attack in the Two Knights Defence with 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bc4 Nf6 4 Ng5 d5 5 exd5 Nxd5 6 Nxf7!?

The Two Knights Defence is one of the trickiest tactical openings around. If White initiates complications with the so-called Fried Liver Attack, play becomes extremely sharp and gambits and counter gambits abound. Anyone who enters the murky waters of the Fried Liver must be well prepared for the mind-boggling complications that ensue.
