Under (To)day Events, you find scheduled events, MasterChallenge, Simul, etc. But also the live games that are broadcasted. following, there is "tomorrow events" as far there is no last minute change.

vs is probably the toughest Time  Control for the Masters. So, in most on cases, we go for a  1 1 vs 2 1. Still one more minute for the player!

Let's see the results of the week:

Thursday May 8 | 15:00 EDT

 Simul Results

Don't miss the registration! To make sure you'll be warned of the beginning of the registration for the simul, just do "tell simulbot alarm". Beware, that is a toggle command, so, if you send the command twice, that will switch the alarm off.
EC IM Martha Fierro 'Simul, was played against 9 players. Martha won 7 and lost 2 to Anzer and ArjunPatel. As usual, the review of the game was very instructional

Here is a screenshot of the game lost vs ArjunPatel2 that she reviewed.

IL GM Ronen Har-Zvi, played his Tuesday's Simul vs 10 players. He drew one vs AKain but only Brechstange defeated the GM in a game that lasted 1h30! Since the GM had to go, Brechstange kindly analysed the game in company of other players. Thanks to him!

WCL is the only site where Simul are followed by an analysis and comments between the simul giver and  the  audience.

Banter played this week:

During the 25 5 game, the two Masters whisper their thoughts and their plans. Of course, they can't read what their opponent is planning. Always interesting to try to understand how a Master thinks!
When the game finishes, the players review the game together, exploring other lines and analyzing their mistakes.

GM Yuri Solodovnichenko vs IM Irina Krush. It was a nice fight between this two great players. GM Yuri Solodovnichenko won.  We wish good luck to IM Irina Krush actually playing the US Championship in Tulsa!

IM Goran Vojinovic vs IM Branimir Maksimovic was the program on sunday May 11. The two International Masters drew their game. Note that, from now the sunday Banter will take place at 17:00 Server Time. Due to the success of UCSF-QR Tourney  The game ended in a draw and the review of the game was much appreciated by the 25 people in audience!

These games are recorded with their commentaries for a further rebroadcast.
You can also do
/finger Banterchess to review the games without the comments for now but you will be soon be able to have the full benefit of the event.

Thanks to all the players, Members and Masters, and Congratulations to the Winners.

Simen was also the first chess coach for Norwegian prodigy Magnus Carlsen and wrote the book on his path to becoming the world's youngest GM, entitled Wonderboy.  He now works at a top sports academy in Norway, where he teaches chess and football.

   Play Tourneys on WCL

Have Fun: Join Tournaments !

Each days WCL invites you to join Scheduled Tournaments. The list and schedule is in Event Windows. The tournament team tries to set tup different types of tournaments : Standard with the famous bi-daily Random-Draw, a 15 0 swiss rated tourney in 4 rounds (monthly awarded) at 8:00 EDT and 14:00 EDT held in Slomato (channel 222), the hyper speed Mouse Race at 11:00 EDT a series of three tourneys 10sec+1sec of 5 rounds bullet rated in Flash (channel 49) but also some wildchess tourneys as Clear-the-Board where you just have to lose if you want to win. And other tourneys as Chessaholic Trophy (sunday 15:00 EDT) or FridayNightBlitz (awarded).
Also,
the 3 Hour wild Marathon confirms its popularity! "finger WildMarathon" This series of wild tourneys is held in Wild channel (223) every Wednesday from 17:00 server time to 20:00.

Those tournaments open 15-20 minutes before the scheduled time and the managers always wait the exact time before starting. That gives you enough time to finish your current game but join as soon as you are ready!  don't stay as an observer, thinking "I join if other join" faster you join and more you are and... less you wait.

Waiting for a tournament? REQUEST CHANNEL (221) is the place!

Too often,  the players wait for a tourney to be open and never see the one they expect. The Tournament Managers (TM) are here to run what people ask for but... how can they guess that 10 people would join a blitz, or some specific wild or  triple elimination... or... there are so much possibilities!  So, the TM opens randomly a tourney and it doesn't fill "abort by lack or interest".
The solution is simple! Channel 221 is dedicated to Tournament Request so, instead of waiting, join that channel and ask, for example
"Hi, can you organize a 5 0 blitz". When you see someone already post a seek, feel free to say, "yes I am interesting in it, too" or "I would prefer an Atomic double elimination". Well, channel 221 is also a chat channel, so... use it for chatting and say your wishes.
That way, the TM will more likely open a tourney that suits to a maximum of people!
An other tip to help the tourney to start faster... It looks obvious but...  JOIN !  When the players have the feeling the tourney is about to start, they jump in. It is a way to say to the other players that your are really interesting in this tournament and that it won't abort.
Just ask
!!

Need help
about the Tournaments ? do "tell tournamentbot help" and you'll get a lots of topics you can have help on : byes, dr-pts, duration, finger, games, grid, history, join, latejoin, leave, and many others, then for example do "tell tournament finger" to have your personal info. Of course, ask your questions in channel 1, the Helpers will be please to answer

  • Games of the day / Videos : they are available for members only (so join us !) with your WCL handle and password.

  • Mac / Linux :I adore the dasher program but I can't downloaded with my Mac OS X 10.5.1 and sadly I only play with it in my laptop. There is an alternative interface to Dasher for people who chosed Mac or Linux, its called Sonia.

  • Time Control : Set up a game with time control like 40 moves in 60 minutes + extra time like on an OTB is possible when the game is in tourney mode, so you may need a Admin Tournament Manager to do it.

  • What time is it ? : On WCL, the events refers to the Server Time EDT (New-York time), that is GMT-4 or PST+3. To check the Server Time (and see if your didn't forget to have lunch) you can type /Date in main tab and see the server time.
Two important addresses : If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, feel free to contact us. We will give you a personal answer or publish it in this part if many of you are concerned by a topic. We collect also infos regarding members of WCL. If you have played a tourney OTB, if your club organizes an event or anything else, we can mention it.
Some of you may have questions relatives to login, lost password, membership then contact support. We answer as soon we receive your mail.
