GM Ronen Har-Zvi "New Ideas in the Marshall Attack"new

Ronen

One of the world’s first Grandmasters of chess, America’s Frank J. Marshall (1877-1944), left behind a lasting legacy to the chess world with his revered gambit against the Ruy Lopez – the Marshall Attack with 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 a6 4 Ba4 Nf6 5 0-0 Be7 6 Re1 b5 7 Bb3 0-0 8 c3 d5!

The Marshall Attack is one of the most important openings in the history of chess and is still deployed with regularity at super Grandmaster level. In current theory the ideas and strategies of both approaches are studied in-depth, and nowadays experts have come to the conclusion that White has no clear superiority in the main theoretical lines. And in the latest of his "New Ideas in..." series, GM Ronen Har-Zvi, takes a closer look under the microscope at Marshall's revolutionary idea.

Jorge, who has five IM norms but no title (as yet!), also top-scored for new USCL champions Boston Blitz last season, undefeated on 6.5/7 (his only draw being with Hikaru Nakamura) and a 2800 performance. His new project involves teaching chess to kids in schools.

TomatoTourney Tip of the Week: Watch those dr-points!

In an effort to minimize disruptive behavior in tournaments, ICC awards dr-points (disruptor points) in certain situations. The most common ways to accumulate these points is by repeatedly starting your tournament games late or disconnecting/ leaving a tourney before it's finished. Be careful, because if you accumulate 50 dr-points, you'll be banned from participating in tourneys for a week. The good news is that successfully completing tournaments without any disruptive behavior reduces your dr-points.

Nick's Best - Lawrence Day
Selected Games of IM Bryon Nickoloff

ICC StoreCanada's eccentric International Master Bryon Nickoloff was a genius at opening preparation and endgame strategy. The main reason he never became a Grandmaster was habitual time trouble with the clock. He was simply addicted to the adrenaline of time scrambles. So this book will be very educational for students of openings and endgames, but a dramatic 'cautionary tale' regarding the time-consuming search for perfection in the middlegame.
