Some results of the week

Keep an on the scheduled Events, connect in time, then, jump in!
On Dasher, click in menu bar - Window - Activities then select the Events tab. That is where you find most of the info about... guess what... EVENTS ! Under (To)day Events, you find scheduled events, MasterChallenge, Simul, etc. But also the live games that are broadcasted. Under them are the "tomorrow events" as far there is no last minute change. But above the Today Events, there is a line name "scheduled events with titled players this week" and it opens a webpage.

vs is probably the toughest Time  Control for the Masters. So, in most on cases, we go for a  1 0 vs 2 1. Still one more minute for the player!

Banter played this week:

During the 25 5 game, the two Masters whisper their thoughts and their plans. Of course, they can't read what their opponent is planning. Always interesting to try to understand how a Master thinks!
When the game finishes, the players review the game together, exploring other lines and analyzing their mistakes.

GM Boris Gulko vs IM Dragan Stamenkovic 0-1
GM Yuri Solodovinchenko vs GM Dejan Antic was an epic battle that ended in a draw. Congrats to both players.

These games have been recorded with the player's comments and can be rebroadcasted on demand.

Thursday, March 13th | 15:00 EST
YU IM Goran Vojinovic played a second event on this thursday. This time, he was up for a Simul against 13 opponents. He won the 12 games and lost one to Lena. He reviewed the game he played vs Think. Do /examine #1314353647 to review it by yourself.

EC IM Martha Fierro was there for her weekly Simul. She played 12 games and just lost one to Chessqueen20. She reviewed this game i a long, deep and instructional lecture.

During the simul, Martha lost her connexion. What to do then ? NOTHING! please ;-) Don't try to resume by yourself or it may mess up the whole thing. Just be patient, the admin who runs the event will fix it, game per game, so it may seem long but... everybody can finish his games!

EC IM Martha Fierro won't be there next Saturday as she is playing a tournament in Sweden. So we switched her event with GM Ronen Har-Zvi's. That's why she was there again on Tuesday march 18 and played against 8 players. Eight wins and she reviewed the games played vs ChrisG. for her weekly Simul. She played 12 games and just lost one to Chessqueen20. She reviewed this game i a long, deep and instructional lecture.

XIX Internet Chess Tournament "Ciudad de Dos Hermanas"

For the ninth year running the XIX Internet Chess Tournament "Ciudad de Dos Hermanas" (Spain) is being held on the ICC playing zone (www.chessclub.com). Registration for the event is completely free both for ICC members and non-members!

This event is clearly the most important Internet chess tournament in the world, featuring the biggest number of participants. In the 2007 edition, nearly 2000 players from all over the world took part. The winner, former child prodigy and under-10 World Champion IM Jorge Sammour-Hasbun, overcome an impressive field of 300 IM/GM’s, including top players Shahriyar Mamedyarov, Tigran L. Petrosian, Gata Kamsky, Hikaru Nakamura, Kiril Georgiev and Sergey Shipov.

This year the prize fund will be 7,700 Euro (roughly $12,000), with 2,000 Euro (roughly $3,400) for the winner. In addition, there are many class prizes and special cash prizes for amateur players. Also, winners can achieve the opportunity to travel to Dos Hermanas for the main Event, with Topalov, Shirov, Polgar and Vallejo, at the end of April.

As in previous editions, the playing system is as follows: twelve 12-round Swiss qualifiers using the playing rate: 3 minutes per game. Qualifiers are held twice a day from March 28th to April 2nd, and the finals are held on April 4th and 5th. The 12 qualifier winners plus the 20 best scores qualify to the 32 KO final.

Full rules, guidelines and registrations can be found at our special Dos Hermanas website

Events with Prize by IM Goran Vojinovic

Every Thursday at 10:00 EDT

Hello, Welcome to my MasterChallenge I will be happy to offer a free lesson to the best Winner During February and till Avril 10th 2008, IM Goran Vojinovic will offer a weekly MasterChallenge in the early afternoon, (european time). Among the players who will play him, the best winner will be awarded by a free lesson given by IM Goran Vojinovic.
The Serbian International Master is actually rated 2474 and could beat his previous peak (2482) very soon.
He belongs to those who believe in WCL and wants to help the site to develop in Europ.
The dates are not yet determined, so keep an eye on WCL events and don't give away the chance to get free lesson from a great teacher!
Result of Thursday, March 13th : Goran experimented big lag issue so only 6 games were played and  won, so, this time again, the winner of the free lesson is NO_PLAYER. Better luck in two weeks! IM Goran Vojinovic has been invited to play a tourney next week and won't be available then!

Rules : the games will be played in 2 0 2 0 time control. In case of several losses, the best winner will be determined this way
1st tiebreak: The player who won the most games in that MasterChallenge.
2nd tiebreak: The player with the lowest rating.

Predict a Move

Started  January 1st, PAM (Predict-a-Move) is rolling. Every day at 13:00 EDT, you can join the line just type "tell PAM-bot join".
The rule is simple. A game played by 2 masters is chosen in a database and the members have to guess what is the move that has been played by white as well as black. Any guess within the 30 first seconds gives you 25 points. The right guess gives 75 points, so, the right guess found in less than 30 seconds means 100 points.
Of course, it is not allowed to search the game in a database in order to guess(?) the move. We hope you understand that cheating is just detrimental.
You can join, leave and come back without losing your points.
Here come the names of the top 3 in the PAM played from Thursday, March 13th to Wednesday, March 19th:

 Thursday  1. LuxTime 3875 pts  2. Alstone52 3750 pts  3. timm 3500 pts
 Friday  1. Alstone52 3725 pts  2. timm 3150 pts  3. Janos07 3150 pts
 Saturday  1. Alstone52 4525 pts  2. teve15 3950 pts  3. RichardBradley 3950 pts
 Sunday  1. timm 2450 pts  2. Zoraidax 2300 pts  3. Janos07 2150 pts
 Monday  1. EduardoAbramson 3225 pts  2. Zoraidax 3175 pts  3. wimmekdudek 2975 pts
 Tuesday  1. timm 4025 pts  2. Alstone52 3800 pts  3. robertbancod 3625 pts
 Wednesday  1. Alstone52 4950 pts  2. Alesbenko 4675 pts  3. teve15 4475 pts

Each day, around 20 persons join this events and kibitz their thoughts via PAM-bot. So Join us and have fun!
In case of tiebreak, the system is very simple, it is the registration order which decides, so, be there at the very beginning!

icon  Dasher - Hints and tips

Make sure you have a version 1.2.2 or above. Click on the Help in menu bar and select About Dasher. It will display your actual version and if it does show you the 1.2.2 you have to download here.

On the board, you can see a game played by Bobby Fischer against Donald Byrne during the Rosenwald Memorial, October 17th, 1956. It means that Bobby Fischer was only 13years old! White just played 17.Kf1 and Bobby found THE killer move! Which one ?

Since this game belongs to the most famous of chess History, many of you may know the answer. But for the others, let's set up the position on the board. How to do it?

1) Click on >Action >enter examination

2) type /clearboard

3) drag the pieces outside the board to their square with the mouse. Note that you can also type WK@f1 to place the White King on square f1 (x@f1 would remove the piece)

4) black to play right click in the movelist window and unmark 'white to play' now you see in movelist 1.-  and you are ready to play

5) Suddenly, you realize: "I am not Bobby Fischer"!

Sorry for you ! At least for your chess abilities! If the chessplayer was probably the greatest, the man was only... a man!

Lucky you!  You just downloaded the latest Dasher and, Included in this version, a link to the multi-title winning JUNIOR engine that you can buy much cheaper than anywhere else and integrate in Dasher to examine, analyze your games and, use as a tool to help improve your game!

As a proof, it takes less than one second for Junior to find the move which is... mhhh too bad, I can't remember!

We are here to help you and let you have fun playing chess!

We need you ! As already said above, is growing ! We need Helpers, we need more Tournament managers, so if you like chess and if you enjoy to help people to play chess and give them fun in playing in the best conditions, apply for Helper and/or for Tournament Manager. Go in Event Tab of the Activities Window and, at the bottom, you'll find the forms to fill. Don't forget that thing : if you are friendly with people, people will be friendly with you (well... almost !)
You can also click on "I want to become a Helper" or on "I want to be a Tournament Manager"

Feel free to share your opinion and your wishes. We want to know what kind of event you like, in tourneys, in event vs titled players. We also need to know what is the best hour for you (of course, regarding where you live in the world) and how much time you can spend on for an event. You can find the list of scheduled events, tourneys and broadcast of the coming week in the event window .
Well, we need to know who you are and where you are from in order to schedule the right events at the right time.

Questions and some answers:

  • Games of the day / Videos : they are available for members only (so join us !) with your handle and password.

  • Mac / Linux :I adore the dasher program but I can't downloaded with my Mac OS X 10.5.1 and sadly I only play with it in my laptop. There is an alternative interface to Dasher for people who chosed Mac or Linux, its called Sonia.

  • Time Control : Set up a game with time control like 40 moves in 60 minutes + extra time like on an OTB is possible when the game is in tourney mode, so you may need a Admin Tournament Manager to do it.

  • What time is it ? : On , the events refers to the Server Time EDT (New-York time), that is GMT-4 or PST+3. To check the Server Time (and see if your didn't forget to have lunch) you can type /Date in main tab and see the server time.
Two important addresses : If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, feel free to contact us. We will give you a personal answer or publish it in this part if many of you are concerned by a topic. We collect also infos regarding members of . If you have played a tourney OTB, if your club organizes an event or anything else, we can mention it.
Some of you may have questions relatives to login, lost password, membership then contact support. We answer as soon we receive your mail.
