Played this week

Some results of the week

Keep an on the scheduled Events, connect in time, then, jump in!
On Dasher, click in menu bar - Window - Activities then select the Events tab. That is where you find most of the info about... guess what... EVENTS ! Under (To)day Events, you find scheduled events, MasterChallenge, Simul, etc. But also the live games that are broadcasted. Under them are the "tomorrow events" as far there is no last minute change. But above the Today Events, there is a line name "scheduled events with titled players this week" and it opens a webpage.

vs is probably the toughest Time Control for the Masters. So, in most on cases, we go for a  1 1 vs 2 1. Still one more minute for the player!

Let's see the results of the week:

Thursday, february 28th | 15:00 EST
IL GM Michael Roiz  belongs to those who can hold  the 2 0 1 0 Time control without (too much) damage and, at this high rhythm he played 27 games, drawing vs kte5 and losing to Lena x 2 and DrRay.

icon  Lecture

Friday February 29th | 15:00 EST
IL GM Victor Mikhaelevski gave an interesting and educational lecture on showing us a game he played lately in Gibraltar and that he qualifies himself of crazy games.
A crazy game deserves a crazy board so... this one is one of the many boards you can get with settings options in 'board layout' tab. Chose your board, chose your pieces, customize the colors. That won't improve your chess skill but, at least, you will lose on on a lovely board!

VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: hello everyone and welcome to the lecture
LindaMartel kibitzes: :-)
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: today I would like to show you a really crazy game, which I played in the penultimate round of the Gibtelecom open 2008
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: I played with black pieces against young Australian player Ly, Moulthun

VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: and here a draw was agreed
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: nobody can avoid repetition of moves
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: A crazy game
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: I hope you liked it as it contained a lot of tactics and unusual maneovres
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: thx all for watching
DaleHaessel kibitzes: thx 4 lecture...
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: and see you next time
VMikhalevski(GM) kibitzes: bye from Israel
Kahju kibitzes: thx B-)

Funny unbalanced games eeply analysed by GM Victor Mikhalevski, for now sweating OTB in Reykjavik!

During this full hour, members can chat with the Master, ask questions and give their spin on the games, suggesting some sidelines or variations. A real contact between the players and the Master!
Those live lectures should be available soon in Audio.

Sunday March 2nd | 10:00 EST
LT GM Viktor Gavrikov played a 19 games MasterChallenge with a Time Control 1 1 2 1,  with a full success.

Monday, March 3rd | 15:00 EST
IL GM Daniel Fridman played a 17 games MasterChallenge, losing only one game to DGajovic and drawing vs .

Monday, March 3rd | 19:00 EST
CA GM Pascal Charbonneau almost doesn't play because of his professional activity but he is still very popular so "Pascal, viens quand tu veux". He won 17 out the 18 games he played, just losing to QCorn.

Wednesday, March 5th | 19:00 EST
UA IM Sasha Belezky used the 1 0 vs 2 0 Time control and did great ! 19 wins and one loss to DGajovic!

Wednesday, March 5th | 19:00 EST
BR IM Dragan Stamenkovic was in front of his screen for his MasterChallenge and didn't give a chance to his opponents, winning his 17 games straight.

Banter played this week:

During the 25 5 game, the two Masters whisper their thoughts and their plans. Of course, they can't read what their opponent is planning. Always interesting to try to understand how a Master thinks!
When the game finishes, the players review the game together, exploring other lines and analyzing their mistakes.

IM Dragan Stamenkovic vs IM Mio Perunic 1 - 0 Mio was sorry to play so badly. Anyway, what he calls a bad game would overplay anyone of us. And we wish better luck in the tournament he is actually playing in Iceland where, who knows, he could meet an other of our SitePro: GM Victor Mikhalevski.
IM Irina Krush vs GM Dejan Antic At the end of an exciting game about to end in a draw, and when they were in timetrouble, GM Dejan Antic  found THE wrong move and right after had nothing else to do but resign.

The review was followed by 25 people as the Banter itself gathered 55 people in audience! A record for now, due, both to the popularity of the player and that original Event which is the BanterChess.

These games have been recorded with the player's comments and can be rebroadcasted on demand.

 TGIF

Friday February 29th | 20:00 EST

IM Dragan Stamenkovic vs IM Martha Fierro.Twelve games were played and the final score is 7 - 5.

EC IM Martha Fierro back from Cappelle-La-Grande Open, France, where she scored 5.5/7 and performed at 2527 Elo  played the regular Saturday's Simul. It took  one hour to play the 11 games.

Martha in Cappelle-La-Grande Open - 2008Only one player won his game against Martha. Congratulations to Alpen ! and, of course, thank you to all the players who join the Simul. The game sh anylzed was the one she played against MrYas,

Remember that  is the only site where Simul are followed by an analysis and comments between the simul giver and  the  audience..

Tuesday, March 4th | 19:00 EST
IL GM Ronen Har-Zvi played a simul on 8 boards. Experiencing some issues with his screen, he lost the 2 last games but the winners Zebbile and AndrewFrazer, of course, deserves our congratulations and thanks to all for joining. Keep in mind that, more you are in a simul more you have chance to win, so, convince your friends to join and... Have fun!

Piece-Odds

Friday, February 29th | 15:00 EST
US GM Larry Christiansen was playing his second Piece-Odds on .
With a 2 0 2 0 Time Control, the famous GM played 23 games, losing only one to DGajovic.

Tuesday, March 4th | 15:00 EST
IL GM Alex Finkel was facing this event for the first time on  .
12 wins and 4 losses to FormulaOneFrank, DGajovic, LuxTime and TGRUN.
Of course, only members can play, so become a member!
In Pieces odds, the master will suffer the handicap of a piece determined by your blitz rating despite the rating displayed is your wild rating. The time control is 2 0 2 0. The limits can be adjusted and are not always the same, even for the same Master. For example:
 U1200 Queen down
U1400 Rook on a file missing
U1650 Bishop on c file missing
U1850 kNight on b file missing
 U2200 f pawn missing
Above?... well... show us you deserve your rating ;-)

Thanks to all the players, Members and Masters, and Congratulations to the Winners.

AU GM Dejan Antic comes from Serbia Montenegro where he was born in 1968 but now lives in Australia. You can find more details on his FIDE card here. Current rating  is 2480.
Over the board: he plays King's Indian either as white or black. Also Queen's Indian Semi-Slav and Bogo Indian with White pieces. But if he plays with Black he will try to bring you to his favorite French (or French Tarrasch) or Sicilian.
Some results : in 2007, he finished 1-2 in the strongest tournament ever held in Australia, the "Sydney International Open". But you can read his name in the hall of fame of many tournaments, Las Vegas Masters in 2006 (1), also in Charleroi Belgium International, and many others in Greece, Norway, Germany, Turkey. Of Course in Serbia and Montenegro Championship and before, Yugoslavia. .
This GrandMaster has a good reputation as a coach and trainer. He is coaching the Australian Champion girls under 18 Emma Guo. Before that he had, as student, the young Raja Panjwani in the Canadian team who earned there his first IM norm. He also worked on some lines with Jovana Vojinovic, newly titled as WIM, and daughter of her father(!), an other sitepro, IM Goran Vojinovic.

He plays MasterChallenge or BanterChess, or Simul every week. gives you the opportunity to meet a Grand Master and learn from him. Just look at the scheduled events! It is a privililege to play against him!

Events with Prize by IM Goran Vojinovic

Every Thursday at 10:00 EST

Hello, Welcome to my MasterChallenge I will be happy to offer a free lesson to the best Winner During February and till April 3  2008, IM Goran Vojinovic will offer a weekly MasterChallenge in the early afternoon, (european time). Among the players who will play him, the best winner will be awarded by a free lesson given by IM Goran Vojinovic.
The Serbian International Master is actually rated 2474 and could beat his previous peak (2482) very soon.
He belongs to those who believe in WCL and wants to help the site to develop in Europ.
The dates are not yet determined, so keep an eye on WCL events and don't give away the chance to get free lesson from a great teacher!
Result of Thursday, March 6th : 17 wins, so, this time again, the winner of the free lesson is NO_PLAYER. Better luck next Thursday !
Rules : the games will be played in 2 0 2 0 time control. In case of several losses, the best winner will be determined this way
1st tiebreak: The player who won the most games in that MasterChallenge.
2nd tiebreak: The player with the lowest rating.

Predict a Move

Started since January 1st, PAM (Predict-a-Move) is rolling. Every day at 13:00 EST, you can join the line just type "tell PAM-bot join".
The rule is simple. A game played by 2 masters is chosen in a database and the members have to guess what is the move that has been played by white as well as black. Any guess within the 30 first seconds give you 25 points. The right guess gives 75 points, so, the right guess found in less than 30 seconds means 100 points.
Of course, it is not allowed to search the game in a database in order to guess(?) the move. We hope you understand that cheating is just detrimental.
You can join, leave and come back without losing your points.
Here come the names of the top 3 in the PAM played from Thursday, February 28th to Wednesday, march 5th:

 Thursday  1. timm 2500 pts  2. EduardoAbramson 2100 pts  3. ChessLover2 2100 pts
 Friday  1. timm 3050 pts  2. Alstone52 3025 pts  3. EduardoAbramson 2825 pts
 Saturday  1. Alstone52 3375 pts  2. timm 3350 pts  3. teve15 2825 pts
 Sunday  1. timm 2825 pts  2. Jano07 2500 pts  3. Zoraidax 2400 pts
 Monday  1. Luxtime 4250 pts  2. EduardoAbranson 4025 pts  3. Alstone52 3750 pts
 Tuesday  1. timm 3750 pts  2. LuxTime 3250 pts  3. Alstone52 3200 pts
 Wednesday  1. LuxTime 2825 pts  2. Alstone52 2775 pts  3. Zoraidax 2575 pts

Each day, around 20 persons join this events and kibitz their thoughts via PAM-bot. So Join us and have fun!
In case of tiebreak, the system is very simple, it is the registration order which decides, so, be there at the very beginning!

We need you ! As already said above, is growing ! We need Helpers, we need more Tournament managers, so if you like chess and if you enjoy to help people to play chess and give them fun in playing in the best conditions, apply for Helper and/or for Tournament Manager. Go in Event Tab of the Activities Window and, at the bottom, you'll find the forms to fill. Don't forget that thing : if you are friendly with people, people will be friendly with you (well... almost !)
You can also click on "I want to become a Helper" or on "I want to be a Tournament Manager"

Feel free to share your opinion and your wishes. We want to know what kind of event you like, in tourneys, in event vs titled players. We also need to know what is the best hour for you (of course, regarding where you live in the world) and how much time you can spend on for an event. You can find the list of scheduled events, tourneys and broadcast of the coming week in the event window .
Well, we need to know who you are and where you are from in order to schedule the right events at the right time.

Questions and some answers:

  • Dasher : A new release should be available soon very soon ! Dasher 1.2.2 will support new wild (Atomic and two Kings) but also fix some glitches like the 'jumping cursor'. Ask your Tournament Manager in channel 221 to set up Atomic or any other wild tourney!

  • Rating graph : What is the problem with supplying a personal progress graph for World Chess Live? I considered this an important feature of Chess live and was disappointed when it wasn't carried over when the changes were made. No worries, it will be done.

  • Guests : You have dowloaded Dasher and you can actually plays vs the computer when you are not connected but, if you want to play on line, you must be a member. Log in as a guest just allows you to ask questions. In case of problem to validate your membership, password lost, please contact .

  • Games of the day / Videos : they are available for members only (so join us !) with your and password handle.

  • Mac / Linux :I adore the dasher program but I can't downloaded with my Mac OS X 10.5.1 and sadly I only play with it in my laptop. There is an alternative interface to Dasher for people who chosed Mac or Linux, its called Sonia.

  • Time Control : Set up a game with time control like 40 moves in 60 minutes + extra time like on an OTB is possible when the game is in tourney mode, so you may need a Admin Tournament Manager to do it.

  • What time is it ? : On , the events refers to the Server Time EST (New-York time), that is GMT-5 or PST+3. To check the Server Time (and see if your didn't forget to have lunch) you can type /Date in main tab and see the server time.
Two important addresses : If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, feel free to contact us. We will give you a personal answer or publish it in this part if many of you are concerned by a topic. We collect also infos regarding members of . If you have played a tourney OTB, if your club organizes an event or anything else, we can mention it.
Some of you may have questions relatives to login, lost password, membership then contact support. We answer as soon we receive your mail.
