If you want to see your name in the NewsLetter, it is VERY easy : just play the Events and win!
Played this week
Some results of the week
Keep an on the scheduled Events, connect in time, then, jump in!
On Dasher, click in menu bar - Window - Activities then select the Events tab. That is where you find most of the info about... guess what... EVENTS ! Under (To)day Events, you find scheduled events, MasterChallenge, Simul, etc. But also the live games that are broadcasted. Under them are the "tomorrow events" as far there is no last minute change. But above the Today Events, there is a line name "scheduled events with titled players this week" and it opens a webpage.
vs
is becoming the usual time control for Master Challenge but, for people over 2000, the time control is 1 0 1 0. So, for players who have a provisional rating in bullet, MasterChallenge will take in consideration their rating average in other sections. Masters have more fun to play that way and chances for players to win are greater so... everybody is happy !
Let's see the results of the week:
GM Alex Finkel played 22 games in Time-Odds. 4 losses to 3 winners : PURGATORY, Lena and twice MohammedAhmed
IM Dragan Stamenkovic played in Time-Odds too, 20 wins and 2 losses to XPShadow and nikolasosic
FM Dragan Drasko's results : 18 Wins and 2 losses TGrun and nsideurheadbro.
GM Vitali Golod played 23 games, losing to YoNoSe and nikolasosic.
GM Victor Mikhalevski played 21 games; losing to QCorn and twice to XPShadow.
FM Dragan Drasko despite some connexion trouble of MasterChaqllenge, played his MC 'old way' 2 0 vs 2 0 like on the old site named ICC and won 15 out of 17 games, drew once vs JohnHecht and lost vs QCorn .
IM Miodrag Perunovic jumped in the Pieces-Odds adventure. A true challenge to play with a piece down but Mio, also known as theButcher just gave one game out of 17 to his opponents, VAIBHAVBHAT was the winner.
GM Daniel Fridman didn't lose a game in the 21 games of his MasterChallenge but had to play twice for the draw in time trouble against enigma20 and Lena.
GM Ronen Har-Zvi played his weekly Simul and with the maimum number of players reduced to 10, it was quick full. Sorry for the people who arrived too late. We now must get used to have Simul full beore it starts so we encourage you to join as soon as the registration starts or you take the risk to stay outside. When we see more people knocking at the door, be sure we open it larger but, for now Don't Wait The Last Moment To Join!

2008 on WCL
A new way to play MasterChallenge... only for members, so join us.
MasterChallenge played as Piece-odds or Time-odds appear to meet a great success, for the members as well as for the Masters!
Pieces odds is the first we offer you to play. Determined by your rating, the master will suffer the handicap of a piece. It looks like some of you, ir order to increase their chances, adjust their rating to play in the best time control. Speedtrap calls that "sandbagging" and wants to punish the suspect but I dealt with him, arguing that was not exactly cheating but just, may be a coincidence. Also true for people who have no rating in these sections and play with a rating at 1400P by default. So, we will take in count the average ratings of the player and/or will move the rating limits. The 2000 rating limit one day, may change from 1950 to 2050 an other day. That's my deal with Speedy, I hope you agree with it. Speedy, on his side, likes it!
An other thing about ratings in pieces-odds. When you join, your bullet rating is taken in count but, since pieces-odds is a wild-game, your rating in wild is displayed on the board, don't worry about it, the position is set up according to your bullet rating.
Banter played this week:
During the 25 5 game, the two Masters whisper their thoughts and their plans. Of course, they can't read what their opponent is planning. Always interesting to try to understand how a Master thinks!
When the game finishes, the players review the game together, exploring other lines and analyzing their mistakes.
GM Boris Gulko vs GM Victor Mikhalevski ½ - ½
IM Gergely Szabo vs IM Goran Vojinovic 1 - 0
WGM Anna Zatonskih vs GM Alex Finkel 1 - 0
These games have been recorded with the player's comments and can be rebroadcasted on demand.
TGIF
This Friday evening, thanks to god, we had a great show!
IM Branimir Maksimovic vs GM Dejan Antic. The GM won the series of 3 0 bullet games with a score of 8-4 after a full hour of excitment. Thanks to both players for that event regarded as a one of the most popular show between titled players on WCL.
IM Martha Fierro played as usual a Simul on Saturday evening at 20:00 EST. A not to be missed rendez-vous.
Thirteen players in it and only a loss to ThurmanThomas whose game was analysed in audio lecture together with franco's one.
Find below a preview of a game previously analysed! Click here:
Important Note To Follow the Audio: the voice of the Master is relayed by an encoder which occurs some lag, so, if you "follow MarthaFierro" you get the commentaries with about 15-20 sec delay. That is why you must "follow broadcastbot". That bot copies all the moves from the master's board with 20 sec delay, so you can follow the analysis with the commentaries matching the moves. The link to activate audio is in Event windows.

More Prizes...
Thursday January, 24th, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST. WCL invites you on to celebrate RobertoGaspar's BirthDay! We will be having a 3 0, 7 rnd, PRIZE Tournament. There will be a One Month extension for winner and 1 month each for two Random Draws at the END of the tourney. |
Highlights |
Predict a Move
Started since January 1st, PAM (Predict-a-Move) is rolling. Every day at 13:00 EST, you can join the line just type "tell PAM-bot join".
The rule is simple. A game played by 2 masters is chosen in a database and the members have to guess what is the move that has been played by white as well as black. Any guess within the 30 first seconds give you 25 points. The right guess gives 75 points, so, the right guess found in less than 30 seconds means 100 points.
Of course, it is not allowed to search the game in a database in order to guess(?) the move. We hope you understand that cheating is just detrimental.
You can join, leave and come back without losing your points.
Here come the names of the top 3 in the PAM played from Thursday, January 10th to Wednesday, January 16th:
| Thursday |
1. ChessLover2 2750 pts |

WCL : The Community |
We need you ! As already said above, WCL is growing ! We need Helpers, we need more Tournament managers, so if you like chess and if you enjoy to help people to play chess and give them fun in playing in the best conditions, apply for Helper and/or for Tournament Manager. Go in Event Tab of the Activities Window and, at the bottom, you'll find the forms to fill. Don't forget that thing : if you are friendly with people, people will be friendly with you (well... almost !)
You can also click on "I want to become a Helper" or on "I want to be a Tournament Manager" |
Feel free to share your opinion and your wishes. We want to know what kind of event you like, in tourneys, in event vs titled players. We also need to know what is the best hour for you (of course, regarding where you live in the world) and how much time you can spend on WCL for an event. You can find the list of scheduled events, tourneys and broadcast of the coming week in the event window .
Well, we need to know who you are and where you are from in order to schedule the right events at the right time.
Questions and some answers:
- Breaking News : Atomic chess will be back with the release 1.2.0 of Dasher actually under testing.
- Tournament with Prizes : WCL is holding prizes tournaments. Some of them are announced in the newsletter but not all. So the better way to check when they are is to connect on the site and, in events Window (windows-activities-events) and click on the list of the scheduled tournament which is updated.
- Problembot : is actually unavailable. Hope it will be fixed soon. Meanwhile, you can practice with Traininbot.
- Mr Spock : And he didn't speak for a while. I agree it's annoying but the problem has been reported and should be soon fixed.
- Games of the day / Videos : they are available for members only (so join us !) with your WCL and password handle.
- Mac / Linux :I adore the dasher program but I can't downloaded with my Mac OS X 10.5.1 and sadly I only play with it in my laptop. Wake up, the world change fast. Right! The world changes, that's why there is an alternative interface to Dasher for people who chosed Mac or Linux, its called Sonia. She has blue eyes and red hair and... oops sorry, I am confusing with an other "Sonia". The first one allows you to play Chess and join the WCL community, just click the link. The other one... well...
- Time Control : Set up a game with time control like 40 moves in 60 minutes + extra time like on an OTB is possible when the game is in tourney mode, so you may need a Admin Tournament Manager to do it.
|
Two important addresses : If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, feel free to contact us. We will give you a personal answer or publish it in this part if many of you are concerned by a topic. We collect also infos regarding members of WCL. If you have played a tourney OTB, if your club organizes an event or anything else, we can mention it.
Some of you may have questions relatives to login, lost password, membership then contact support. We answer as soon we receive your mail. |
