Whenever you logon to the Internet Chess Club you will see a window titled "Main
Console." This window displays information from the ICC such as answers to
questions in the Help Channel, "shouts" from players, and announcements
about current lectures, events, and grandmaster games. This window appears by
default and can not be closed without disconnecting from the ICC.
New console windows can be created to suit your needs. Creating new consoles
allows you to filter out some of the information appearing in your Main Console.
Select New Generic Window from the Window menu. To customize this
window select Customize Window from the Options menu.
Another interesting feature is the option of creating a chat window
or channel window. Create either of these windows to chat to a friend
on the ICC without any other interruptions by selecting New Channel/Chat
Console from the Window menu. Then, as above, customize the new window.
Console Shortcut Keys
Even quicker is using Ctrl-Enter to create new console windows. If you
press the Enter key while holding down the Ctrl button, you can automatically
open a new generic console window. Then press the F9 key to reply automatically
to the last person who sent you a tell. This will customize your window to a
chat window.
Right-Clicking on a Player
Below is a console window customized to show only the information displayed
in the Help Channel (1). You can use your mouse to gather more information about
players on the ICC by highlighting the player and right-clicking.
The pop-up menu in the picture below is active: click any of the menu
items in the pop-up menu to find out what it does.
