ICC Guide :: Chatting

Chatting with Somebody Online

Use the tell command to send a quick message to another member or to a "channel". If you were to type the following in the white text-strip located at the bottom of your console or chessboard window:

tell Allan hello. how are you?

Allan would instantly receive this message:

argiolus tells you: hello. how are you?

Tip: The Period Shortcut

To continue talking to Allan you do not need to continue typing:

tell Allan I have been very busy.

Instead, using the period at the beginning of a line sends a tell to the last person you talked to. For example, typing:

.I have been very busy.

will send your next message to Allan.

Talking to Your Opponent

On the left side of the white text-strip of your game board window is a popup menu. You have these choices: Command, Whisper, Kibitz and Tell opponent.
  • Command: Select this option if you want to type any commands, such as draw or abort, into the white text strip. Usually it is easier to use the buttons that appear when you play a game than to type commands. On older versions of BlitzIn, the choice will be blank (as shown above) rather than Command.
  • Whisper: If you select this option, whatever you type in the white text-strip will be whisper'd to other people in the room, but not to the current players.
  • Kibitz: If you select this option, whatever you type in the white text-strip will be kibitz'd to all people in the room.
  • Tell opponent: If you select this option, whatever you type in the white text-strip will be sent directly to your opponent. You do not need to type any commands -- just type what you want to tell your opponent.
