After clicking on the grey seek button located at the top right-hand corner
of the seek graph, a dialog box titled "seek" will appear.
To customize your own seek use your left mouse button to click in each of
the white boxes and then type in your requirements. After you have filled in
the Seek Box click 'OK' and your seek request will appear on the graph. (Please
allow at least one minute for your circle to appear onto the seek graph.)
Time Controls
All games on the ICC are timed with a clock for each player. Your clock runs
while it is your turn to move. Your opponent's clock runs while it is his turn
to move. The clock measures your "thinking" time remaining.
Time controls determine how the clock operates during the game. There are two
values for a time control:
Initial Time - This is the amount of time, in minutes, that will be
shown on each player's clock at the start of the game. Increment - This is the amound of time, in seconds, added to your clock
after each move made. You can actually gain time on your clock if you move faster
than the increment.
Opponent's Rating
Minimum - This number will be the lowest rating you would like your opponent
to have. Maximum - This number will be the highest rating you would like your opponent
to have.
Note: Multiple Ratings
You can have a number of different ratings on the ICC. There are ratings for
1-minute, bullet, blitz, 5-minute, and standard, which are all different speeds
for playing chess. There are ratings for bughouse, crazyhouse, loser's and wild,
which relate to chess variants.
Advanced Options
Wild type - (chess variant) Wild games start with a nonstandard position
and may have nonstandard rules. Avoid seeking a wild chess game until you have
read the help file: help wild. (0 = normal chess.) Color - Auto means the computer will select black/white automatically.
You may click on the menu arrow and select to be always white or black. Manual accept - Checking this box allows you, the seeker, a choice. When
someone accepts your challenge, you will be shown their handle name and view their
rating. Then you can manually accept or decline.
Other Options
Rated game - Checking this box means you want to play a rated game. A win
or loss here will immediately affect your rating in that area of chess. Save values - Check this box to save all these challenge settings.
When your challenge is accepted a chess board appears on your screen.
