ICC Guide :: Connecting to the ICC

This page explains how to connect to the ICC using the BlitzIn software for Windows. If you are not running Windows, you will need to use a different client. You should download one or try using one of ICC's Java Interfaces.
The first step to connecting to ICC on Windows is to download and install the BlitzIn software. Next, make sure you are connected to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) as usual, and start BlitzIn. When you start BlitzIn (either by double clicking on the icon or running it from the Start menu), you should get a connection dialog as shown here. If not, select New from the Connection menu. Fill out the Handle and Password boxes with your ICC handle, and password. ICC passwords are case-sensitive -- capitalization matters. If you do not have a registered account yet, click here to learn about ICC benefits and register on the ICC. Once you register, you will receive your password via email.

If you wish to have BlitzIn log you in automatically in the future, check Save password. You may not want to save your handle and password in BlitzIn if other people have access to your computer.

Under Advanced options, make sure the server field has chessclub.com. The Port number can be anything from 5000-5099, inclusive.

Advanced Topic: The Backup Server
You can also use the connection menu to connect to queen.chessclub.com, which is the ICC's backup server. Click on the ICC server hostname or IP number menu, and select queen.chessclub.com and click the Connect button. Rated games played on the queen server do count, and both servers maintain the same set of ratings.

Finally, click on the Connect button to connect to ICC. Once you connect, you should see a chess board, a "seek graph" with dots on it, and a text "console" window similar to the one of the right. Sample ICC Login Screen

Sample Console Window

If it is your first time logging into the ICC, you will first be asked a couple of questions in the console window. Once you've finished that, you're ready to start a game on the ICC.

To exit the ICC and quit BlitzIn, choose Exit from the File menu. BlitzIn may ask you whether you wish to save the settings to that profile. If you save it, BlitzIn can be used to automatically log you in to ICC in the future, without needing to retype your handle and password each time.
