ICC Help: kibitz

Command:  kibitz
Example:  "kibitz What an amazing sacrifice!"

Sends the text to all players and observers of the game you are observing or playing. Same as the "whisper command", except that "whisper" goes only to the observers, not the players.

It's considered rude to "kibitz" during a serious game, unless the players have agreed that it's okay. ICC has an "allowkib" variable that allows you to choose whether your games should allow kibitzes.

"set allowkib 0" = No kibitzing. *All kibitzes are converted to whispers.
"set allowkib 1" = Allow kibitzes.
"set allowkib 2" = Allow kibitzes in unrated games only. See help vars.

If you allow kibitzes in your games, the "kib" variable determines which kibitzes and whispers you will hear.

- Do "set kib 0" to hear no kibitzes.
- Do "set kib 1" to hear all kibitzes.
- Do "set kib 2" to hear only titled players (GM, IM, FM, WGM, WIM, WFM, DM).

You can also elect to block out kibitzes while you're playing, with "set quietplay 2" (blocks them all) or "set quietplay 1" (blocks just observers' comments). See help quietplay.

If you are observing more than one game, use the "primary" command to choose which game your kibitzes will go to. Or you can use the "kibitzto" command. For example, "kibitzto 136 Why not 21...Bxg5?" sends your comment to game 136.

Please note the following etiquette regarding the kibitz command:

1) It is not polite to kibitz during other people's games, unless you have permission from both players.

2) During the broadcast of live events, please keep the kibitzes on the topic of the game. Most people are watching to see the game and to discuss it with other players, not to discuss non-chess topics or to get into arguments.
