REGISTRATION
Registration opens Thursday, September 12. To play in either event, please
read the agreement below. By registering, you agree to the terms of the
agreement. Please read it before registering. To register, please send a
message to "TD" to say which event you are entering. The deadlines for
registering are 5 PM EDT Friday, September 20 for the September 21
tournament and 5 PM EDT Friday, September 27 for the September 28
tournament.
In order to play, you must be a registered member of ICC. If you are not a
member, you may join for a seven-day free trial at any time by telnetting
to chessclub.com and typing "r". If you want to play, but your membership
has expired and you are not eligible for a seven-day free trial, please
log onto ICC and ask an admin for a free two-day extension after 5 PM EDT
the Thursday before the tournament starts. Even if you obtain a two-day
extension shortly before the registration deadline, you must separately
register for the tournament by 5 PM EDT Friday.
The tournament director will look up the ratings to be used for the
tournament after the close of registration. The higher established rating,
blitz or standard, will be used for the tournament. The tournament
director will have the authority to use an estimated rating for the
tournament in unusual circumstances.
AGREEMENT:
By registering for either of these tournaments, I agree to the following:
1. I agree not to use any outside help in playing the games, including but
not limited to, assistance from computers, other people, books or notes.
2. I agree that all decisions of the Tournament Director, ICC, and ICC's
administrators and representatives are final. Specifically, I agree that
ICC and its representatives have the right to decide who it will invite to
the Grandmaster Knockouts.
3. I agree that ICC has the right to disqualify anyone it chooses.
4. I agree not to withdraw from the tournament without notifying the
Tournament Director as soon as possible before the next round. I agree to
"message" the Tournament Director with the result of each game I play at
its conclusion. I will include the names AND the player numbers of the
players in my messages.
5. I understand that this is an on-line tournament. This offers me the
chance to play competitively against people who live thousands of
kilometers from me. It also means that lag on the Internet or other
problems could result in my not being able to complete one or more games.
6. I understand that the purpose of these tournaments is to have fun and I
will play in that spirit.
COMPUTER PLAY
Computers are NOT eligible to play in either of these tournaments. ICC
welcomes computer play in its club and has had many exciting events
involving computers. The ICC Grandmaster Knockouts are for human players
only.
To reinforce this view, if ICC or its representatives believes that a
player from the Planet Chess Master Qualifier has played in the manner of
a computer, that player will NOT be invited to play in the Grandmaster
Knockouts. This is regardless of whether ICC believes that a computer has
been used for assistance.
ROUND TIMES, TIME CONTROLS, ADJUDICATIONS AND PAIRINGS
Five rounds are scheduled to be played the Saturday of each tournament at
11 AM, 12:30 PM, 2 PM, 3:30 PM and 5:15 PM, all EDT (server time). There
will be no playoff to settle ties in the Advance-to-Planet Chess Master
Qualifier on September 21. Playoffs to settle ties for second place in the
Planet Chess Master Qualifier will start as soon as practical after the
finish of the fifth (5 PM) round on September 28.
The time controls for every game are 15 10 (initial time of 15 minutes
with 10 seconds increment per move). All games are to be rated.
ICC reserves the right to adjudicate obvious positions starting 20 minutes
before the next round is to begin. Games not finished when pairings are
posted for the next round will be adjourned, to be resumed when both
players are available (after the next round). Players are to continue
playing until the Tournament Director instructs the players to adjourn
(there will be no sealed moves). Pairings may be made based on the
Tournament Director's assessment of unfinished games before a round ends.
We will try to complete all adjourned games before round 5. There will be
no adjournments for round 5.
The pairings for each round will be posted in the finger notes of the
account "TD". Each player will be assigned a pairing number shown in one
of the news or help files (announcement will be made about where to find
file).
DISCONNECTIONS, FORFEITS, LAG AND SERVER DIFFICULTIES
Any player whose opponent is disconnected for a cumulative total of 10
minutes after the start of a round before the conclusion of the game has
the right to claim a win. Any player whose opponent does not start a game
for 10 or more minutes after the announced beginning of a round has the
right to claim a win by forfeit.
Lag or other problems could cause the starting time of one or more rounds
to be delayed. We will make announcements as appropriate.
If the chessclub.com site is not available for any reason, we will try to
play the (remaining) games at the old "babar.lm.com" site.
