1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 d5 4. cxd5
GMAlex: nothing new
4. .. Nxd5 5. e4 Nxc3 6. bxc3 Bg7 7. Bc4
GMAlex: played a tempo
GMAlex: he is very strong in this line
7. .. c5
Kaidanov: Emil always plays gruenfeld defence as black. And I always play
this main line
GMAlex: Greg won an impressive game in USA-China match
8. Ne2
GMAlex: I remember it...
8. .. Nc6 9. Be3 O-O
Kaidanov: we are heading to so called Seville variation
10. O-O
GMAlex: now it's time to think
GMAlex: the main line is Bg4 f3 Na5
GMAlex: I better play something less common....
GMAlex: maybe,Svidler's favorite Bd7 is a good idea
10. .. Bd7
GMAlex: in the rapid chess you should either remember the long, forced lines
Kaidanov: emil choses a rear move. Seville variation goes as 10...Bg4 f3
na5 bxf7
GMAlex: and I fail to remind it now
GMAlex: or to use the computer
11. Rc1
GMAlex: which is not really
GMAlex: or to deviate and to play just
11. .. Rc8
Kaidanov: due to strong pawn center white enjoys a space advantage.
12. Qd2 Qa5
GMAlex: typical Gruenfeld' position
Kaidanov: however, Black has a pressure on this center
GMAlex: white got a powerful centre
GMAlex: black is trying to attack it
GMAlex: now,I want to push his e4-e5 or d4-d5
GMAlex: ok,he can play some Rfd1 or Qb2,but this doesn't look really dangerous
13. d5 Ne5
Kaidanov: he was threatening to take on d4, I felt like I have to advance
14. Bb3
GMAlex: this I wanted to get
GMAlex: now he wants c3-c4
Kaidanov: though I gave his knight a nice central square
GMAlex: I can play b7-b5
Kaidanov: it would be wonderful if I could play h3 and f4
Kaidanov: but he is not going to give me this time
GMAlex: but then he plays f4 Ng4 c4..looks playable for me
GMAlex: but maybe,I've got a stronger move?
Kaidanov: I expect something like ...c4 Bc2 e6
Kaidanov: this is a standart plan for Black
Kaidanov: ng4 is also interesting.
14. .. Qa6
GMAlex: I'll try this one
GMAlex: b7-b5 was OK,but I didn't have any threat then now I want to play Nc4
Kaidanov: looks like a strong move
GMAlex: and if he plays c3-c4,then b7-b5
15. c4 b5
GMAlex: pretty expected
Kaidanov: I have to play it, Nc4 was too big of a threat
GMAlex: what should he play now? probably ,he will play f4
16. Bh6
GMAlex: to push me to take with the knight...
GMAlex: hmmm what's that?
Kaidanov: pawn sacrifice
Kaidanov: by exchanging his bishop I hope to have an access to his king
later on.
16. .. Bxh6
Kaidanov: bishop on g7 is black's king main defender
17. Qxh6
GMAlex: he has an interesting idea
17. .. bxc4 18. Bc2
GMAlex: Ng3+Nh5
Kaidanov: I have doubts my sacrifice was correct
18. .. Nd3
GMAlex: can't see better way
GMAlex: but it looks good
Kaidanov: but his sacrifice in the first game also was pseculative, but he
GMAlex: after Nf4 I can play Qa3 to protect the knight on d3
GMAlex: and not to let Nh5!
19. Bxd3 cxd3 20. Nc3 Qf6
Kaidanov: now my hope is to advance e5, f4 trying to create an attack on the
kingside later on
GMAlex: I want my quen on d4
Kaidanov: not
GMAlex: to protect the pawns and to prevent any activity on the kingside
GMAlex: in fact,I don't see real compensation for him
GMAlex: though my pawns are not getting promoted easily
21. Rfd1 Qd4
GMAlex: I am
GMAlex: c4 Qe3 was not exactly my idea
GMAlex: next I got to activate my rook .Rc8-b8-b2
22. Qh4 Rb8
GMAlex: don't want to waste the time protecting e7 pawn
GMAlex: Qe7 Rb2 looks good
GMAlex: Seems like a good opening choice
GMAlex: I never looked at it deeply, but the play is simple and Greg was
definetely not ready
GMAlex: reacted too agressively with Bh6?
GMAlex: anyway, the game is not over yet, have to be more concentrated on my
own play
GMAlex: and not to critisize my honourable partner
23. Qxe7
GMAlex: hmmmm,I thought it's just bad
Kaidanov: more like a desperate move in worse position
GMAlex: I got Rb2 or d2 or Bg4....
Kaidanov: actually bg4 just wins for him
GMAlex: hehe,I've got a nice
Kaidanov: another blunder on my part
Kaidanov: bg4 rd2 qxc3! and my back rank is weak
23. .. d2
Kaidanov: same idea, just different move order
GMAlex: and now if he plays Rc2 (which looks an only move)
GMAlex: I have Ba4!!
GMAlex: Rdd2 Q:c3!
Kaidanov: I guess I am in vacation mood:)
24. Rc2
GMAlex: let me check once more
GMAlex: I can afford to myself to think a
Kaidanov: actually, there is an idea
GMAlex: hmmm...he can take it on a4
Kaidanov: bg4 rdd2 qxc3 h3
GMAlex: Ba4 Na4 Rb1 Nc3
GMAlex: Qc3..should be winning, but better to check it twice
Kaidanov: i am sure it's still winning for him, but he probably overlooked
something
24. .. Ba4
GMAlex: of course, I should have checked it earlier on- before playing d2....
Kaidanov: wow, that's very nice
GMAlex: but,thanks God,it looks winning
Kaidanov: nxa4 rb1
GMAlex: still Bg4 (instead of d2)was a cleaner way
GMAlex: but maybe, the way I played is abit more spectacular- after all, that's a
GMAlex: now he takes on a4 ,I play Rb1
GMAlex: Nc3- Qc3!
GMAlex: Rcd2 (the one I missed at the beginning) - Rfb8 and it seems to be over
Kaidanov: I am lost, so I'm just to chose the most psectacular line. He is
going to play Qc2! on move 27.
25. Nxa4 Rb1
GMAlex: I think the idea of bringing the queen to d4 was a good one
26. Nc3 Qxc3
Kaidanov: now after my 27.Rcxd2 both Qc2 and Qa1 are good.
27. Rxd2
GMAlex: oh,I have even simpler win
27. .. Qa1
GMAlex: :)
GMAlex: Lord,save the Queen:)
GMAlex: d8-a5-a6-f6-d4-c3-a1:) she earned a beer tonight:)
GMAlex: Sorry,I do have a real respect for Elizabeth!
(GM Kaidanov is dieconnected)
Kaidanov: I am really sorry, got disconnected
Kaidanov: I am in the hotel in Jackson, Wyoming
Kaidanov: anyway, it was actually a good time to be disconnected
GMAlex: I don't see any way for white
Kaidanov: Emil played a great game
