1: I'm an ex-S/W dev. (Java, C/C++, Assembler, some .NET; Excel macros/VBA)
located in Hamilton (near Toronto, Canada). My USCF rating is 1858. BEST
GAME (but not my fav.) is from Play the Master vs manest, lib #26; "very well
played" - manest, "wow, awesome" - kibs. Best tourn: Tomato 306916 Rp=2264
2: Exchanging 'Thank You's after a game doesn't make sense and (IMO) comes
from people being interviewed on TV and radio who were so glad to be there
that they needed to say TY on air. How about exchanging 'Handshake's
instead? '+alias HS say Handshake'
3: MORE TIME: How about having a universal delay of up to 2 secs before moves?
This would reduce mousies, improve people's chess and their enjoyment.
Bullet could be a special case.
4: TAKEBACKS FOR MOUSIES. I see this as being clumsy with the pieces in OTB
play. Young guys say 'mousies are a part of the game', but if some old guy
nudges the wrong piece in over-the-board they don't make him move it. And
who hasn't had a mouse go bad?
5: PROVISIONAL RATINGS: I'd like to know at the start of a game if my opp. is
provisional, especially in 5 min. ANCIENT SAYING: "Chess is a sea where gnats
can drink and elephants bathe."

6: IMPROVE YOUR PLAY without studying: 1 If you're ahead on time ALWAYS think
before moving (a) to avoid making bad moves and (b) to avoid helping your opp
make good moves. 2 On your opp's time think about what he's going to do. 3
Avoid captures as they can waste tempi &/or initiative. 4 Postpone unclear
sacs
7: 5 When building an attack on a square, try and do it indirectly, by
attacking other squares as well. 6 Don't take risks w/o time to analyze. 7 In
Blitz, make the first adequate move you see, analyse later (with s/w). 8
After losing a game, go back to the losing pos & absorb it, so that you don't
repeat it.
8: -- but don't otherwise analyze during the tourn. 9 If you get surprised by
a move, take extra time to get over the shock.
9: In tourns, whether you beat a Master or lose to a fish: stay cool. 11 Don't
drag out lost games but 12 Don't resign too soon. 13 Play OFTEN and with
slightly stronger players. 14 Use TrainingBot. 15 Make a list like this.
10: Luck is a factor in blitz in that you can start a combo that's too long to
analyze in the time avail. Or say it's instinct if you're a Master or very
familiar with the pos. No luck implies that you're analytically responsible
for each move, good or bad -- who needs that? And there's premoving too.
