Summary
Larry started strong in his Banter Blitz session, winning 11 games in a row. Then he lost to a strong and young player, SamShe, in an interesting battle over the board. Only other two players were able to win against our strong GM: RRK and tactics321. Kudos to all of them!

Saturday 12th, 2pm ICC time
GM John Fedorowicz
Score: +13 =4 -3

It was again very fun and instructive to listen to GM Fedorowicz play a simul exhibition in ICC. Our GM is a volcano of ideas and watching him play while talking about the games is a rollercoaster. Lots of people followed the simul and the streaming on ICC TV. Kudos to the three players who mastered the Master: chess24, HerrFatmann and drstrangemove!

Thursday 17th, 2pm ICC time
GM Miguel Illescas Score: +13 =4 -3

This time GM Miguel found himself in time trouble, and had to play fast and strong the second part of the simul. Despite he being forced to move quickly, GM Illescas had a nice score, and his opponent enjoyed the games. As usual, lots of people watched him play and talk about the games on the ICC TV.

Thursday 24th, 7pm ICC time
GM Alex Yermolinsky
Score: +12 =3 -0

GM 'Yermo' played very strong, finishing unbeaten in this amazing session of Banter blitz. And banter it was! Alex was entertaining and watching him comment on the games was really interesting. People on Twitch were enthusiastic about his performance - not only the great result, but his way to show how a GM thinks during the game, and how someone rated 1000 points higher than you can 'tease' a bit his opponents.

Instructions to participate

BLITZIN/DASHER users

  1. Join the simul channel (ch 3). In the chat area (console) just type: /+channel 3
  2. Once the simul is open, type: /tell simulbot join

ICC for Mac/windows users

  1. Go the the Channel list button upper right-hand corner, and add the “Simul”
  2. Go to menu item VIEW->CONSOLE and type: /tell simulbot join

For the simuls, we will be using the "Lottery" system to select the players, in case that more than 20 will join.  Here is an explanation of how the Lottery system works:

Essentially, the join-start process will run in a different way.  SimulBot will let as many people "sign-up" for the simul as are interested. For example, if it is a 20 person simul, the bot will let 40, 50, 60, etc, sign up for the simul. Then, when it is time to start the simul, the bot will have a lottery and select 20 people to play.  The remaining players will be notified they will not be playing in that paticular simul and removed. This method will ensure that all members have a chance to play.

Also of interest is that the lottery system will be setup to give members who play in fewer simuls a higher chance to be selected. There are two things specifically that affect any one person's chance of playing: the total number of simuls played and whether he/she played in the last simul.  These two variables will enter into the bot function for deciding how many "lottery tickets" that player recieves.

For the Blitz Banter sessions, you need to type in your console: /match <gmname> 3 2 u -- for example: /match LarryC 3 2 u. An admin will announce in channel 3 when you can match the GM. The system used in this case is first in-first served: the first 15 players to match the GM will play him.

The events will be streamed LIVE on ICC chess TV!

You will be able to see the Grandmaster playing the event, and listen to his comments DURING the play! Don't expect the GMs to tell you your next winning move, though.  Stay tuned, and enjoy!
