ICC News Item #813
NEWS 813 (8-Nov-97) New World Internet Record. 30,000 Games Played per day.
-------------------------------------------------------
At approximately 5:00 PM EST November 8, 1997, the ICC established a
new, internet world record for the number of games played in a 24 hour
period.
Game volume has been increasing steadily since the creation of the ICC
2.5 years ago. The surge in the last few days is due to our move to a
new site that has significantly better internet connectivity. The
average lag has decreased by about 30% since the move.
And if your lag is still not as good as you think it should be you can
play chess at ICC's alternate server located at a completely differnet
site on the internet: queen.chessclub.com
The continued growth of ICC use is testimony to its supremacy in the
on-line chess arena. What this means for everyone is more chess, more
chess, and more chess.
Thanks everyone for helping to make ICC the best place to get
checkmated on the Internet. Now for the 35,000 game mark...
