NEWS 1578 (28-Jan-02)  Chessclub.com 1 0 Championship starts February 3!
The Chessclub.com 1 0 Championship starts February 3. Like past
Championships, there will be three stages of the Championship. The
first stage consists of 12 Qualifiers (16 round 1 0 swisses) during
the week of February 3-9. All ICC members are invited to participate.
The second stage will take place the weekend of February 16-17 and will
consist of 2 closed Candidates events and two Class Finals (Under
2100 and Under 1600).
The last stage consists of the Chessclub.com 1 0 Finals, open to the
top finishers in the Candidates, occurs Saturday February 23. Twelve
players will duke it out in a round robin event for the title of
Chessclub.com 1 0 Champion! Defending champion GM Crest is
seeded into the 1 0 Finals.
The Qualifier stage is open to all, but qualification is needed to
advance to later stages. Free trial members are invited to play in the
first stage, but they cannot advance to later stages without
paying to extend their membership by midnight on Saturday, February 9.
The top 3 finishers in EACH individual Qualifier and top 6 in overall
Qualifier "series" (cumulative score from all qualifiers combined)
earn invitations to the Candidates Stage. Alternate spots will be
given to those who just miss out on qualifying.
The 1 0 Champs will have two Class Champions. The top four
finishers rated under 2100 and under 1600 in each Qualifier will be
invited to the respective Class Finals. Please see the web site
listed below for eligibility requirements and other details about
the Class Finals.
The schedule of Qualifiers is as follows (all times EST = GMT - 5):
Week of February 3-9:
SUN (Feb 3): 6am Noon 6pm
MON (Feb 4): 9pm
TUE (Feb 5): 3pm
WED (Feb 6): 3pm 9pm
THU (Feb 7): 7pm
FRI (Feb 8): 3pm 9pm
SAT (Feb 9): 1am 4pm
All Qualifiers will be run by LittlePer(TD) in channel 225, except
for the Monday 9pm and Saturday 4pm qualifiers which will be run
by Flash(TD) and replace the normally scheduled bullet events at
those times.
No pre-registration is required for the Qualifiers. You can play
in as many Qualifiers are you like. To play in a Qualifier tourney,
just show up and type "tell LittlePer join !", or click the relevant
icon in the Events window, when the Qualifier is open. For general

Participants must use BlitzIn. (Mac users may be able to get
special permission to use Fixation. Leave a message for
Championship and/or ask the tournament manager.)
